The Sexual Health Equity and Empowerment Research (SHEER) Lab is based within the Department of Population Health Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Central Florida.
Through an intersectional lens the lab utilizes an array of methods (quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods) and analytical techniques (e.g., regression analysis, latent class analysis, rapid qualitative analysis) to explore sexual and reproductive health inequities among underserved communities from interdisciplinary perspectives (Public Health, Implementation Science, Biomedical Science).
The lab’s research aims to inform, develop and evaluate individual, biobehavioral interventions aimed at reducing sexual and reproductive health inequities, particularly among medically underserved populations such as women of color.
Mission
The SHEER Lab aims to advance sexual and reproductive health equity through rigorous, interdisciplinary, community engaged research. We aim to identify, and address the contextual drivers of sexual and reproductive health inequities, particularly among medically underserved populations. By developing evidence-based biobehavioral interventions, we strive to empower individuals to achieve optimal sexual health, reproductive health, and well-being.
Vision
Through the SHEER Lab we envision a world where every individual, has access to equitable, affirming, and evidence based sexual and reproductive health care. We envision a society where sexual and reproductive health is recognized as a fundamental human right, and where informed, empowered communities can thrive free from stigma and discrimination. Through innovative research, advocacy, and education, the SHEER Lab aspires to be a global leader in promoting sexual and reproductive health equity and empowerment for all.
